Many places with historical, religious and ancient value, like; Bambaragasthalawa, Bowatta rock cave, Kiripokuna, Kadurupokuna, Kudumbigala, Nelumpathpokuna, Okanda Devalaya can be seen in Kumana National Park. Bio (Animal) diversity While around 32 residential mammals live in this National Park, the largest predator introduced as Leopard (Panthera pardus kotiya) in common use and native in Sri Lanka can be found here. In addition to that; the mammalian species such as Elephant (Elephas maximus maximus), Sloth bear (Melursus ursinus), Spotted-deer (Axis axis ceylonensis), Samber (Cervus unicolor), Stripe-necked mongoose (Herpestes vitticollis), Jackal (Canis aureus), Wild buffalo (Bubalus arnee), Jungle Cat (Felis chaus), Golden palm cat (Paradoxurus zeylonensis) which is endemic to Sri Lanka, Ring-tailed civet (Viverricula indica), Wild boar (Sus scrofa) and Pangolin (Manis crassicaudata) can be discovered in this park.
Kumana National Park is famous in world wide as a paradise for the birds. The Black-necked Stork (Ephippiorhynchus asiaticus) which is considered as a very rare birds species constantly reported around the ltikala and Yakala lagoons in this park. Black-necked Stork (Ephippiorhynchus asiaticus) is considered as the tallest bird in Sri Lanka. It is believed that only a very limited population around 12-17 birds in this species is living n Sri Lanka.
Among 492 birds' species in Sri Lanka, about 267 species have been reported from this park. The lagoon wetlands located in this park are natural habitats for many aquatic birds' species. Many migrant birds' species are reported around these lagoon wetland ecosystems. Among them, Garganey (Anas querquedula Cotton Pygmy-goose (Nettapus coromandelianus), Black-tailed Godwit (Limosa limosa), Bar-tailed Godwit (Limosa lapponica), Common Greenshank (Tringa nebularis), Common Redshank (Tringa tetanus Ruddy Turnstone (Arenaria interpres) and Wood Sandpiper (Tringa glareola) are dominant.
In associated with the water resources in the Kumana national park, both two crocodile in Sri Lanka; Mugger crocodile/ Freshwater crocodile (Crocodylus palustris and Estuarine crocodile (Crocody|us porosus)are reported.
Similarly, three endangered turtle species in the world come to the coastal line which is the Northern boundary of Kumana National Park during October to February in each year. Such species are Olive Ridley turtle (Lepidochelys olivacea), Green turtle (Chelonia mydas) and very rare Leatherback turtle (Dermochelys coriacea).
